PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Marcy Smith Machine / Cage System delivers the versatility of a full commercial gym in one powerful, space-efficient home setup.

Turn any room into a legit strength-training HQ. This cage blends a Smith-style track with a true power-rack feel, so you can move from heavy squats and presses to rows, pull-ups, and accessory work without breaking flow. Built-in safety points and multiple stations make it easy to train hard, push sets close to failure, and stay locked in—even when you’re lifting solo.

It’s also stacked with the add-ons that make training feel unlimited: dual adjustable handles for precise cable angles, a triceps rope and ankle cuff for clean isolation, dip bars for brutal bodyweight volume, and a landmine for explosive presses, rows, and rotational power. Add band pegs for progressive resistance, plus quick-change carabiners and extension chains, and you’ve got a setup that’s ready for strength blocks, hypertrophy days, and athletic finishers—without cluttering your space.

4 Years Later — Still Rock Solid.

I purchased the Marcy Smith Machine SM-4033 back in 2021, and this thing has been rock solid from day one.

It’s been used consistently over the years, not babied, and it has never let me down. No mechanical issues, no breakdowns, no surprises. The cable system is still smooth and strong, even after years of regular use, which honestly surprised me in the best way.

The combination of the Smith machine, pull-up bar, and landmine station makes it incredibly versatile. I can hit full-body workouts without needing multiple pieces of equipment, and everything feels stable and secure during heavy lifts.

What really stands out is the durability. The frame is solid, the movement feels controlled, and nothing feels cheap or flimsy. For a home gym setup, it’s been an absolute workhorse.

Bottom line:
This machine has faithfully taken care of me since day one, and I haven’t had a single issue with it. If you’re looking for a reliable, long-term investment for a home gym, this is one I can confidently recommend.

Great Value, less than stellar pulleys

Exactly as advertised and what I was looking for. Instructions are clear and assemble is doable, though I'd recommend getting a socket wrench set rather than only using the included tools.

Some of the pulleys have too much resistance, causing the cables not to retract if there's no weight on the stack, even after using silicone lubricant. I'll be getting replacement pulleys soon.

SM-4033

Im very satisfied with my purchase of the SM-4033, I bought my first one 2 years ago and loved it so much I bought another one as a gift for my brother. I find this smith machine to be made of quality parts, this machine is very sturdy and reliable, the cables have held up well over the years, I use every feature available on this smith machine. I love all the different exercises it allows for, saving space and money from having to buy multiple machines to get all the functions that sm-4033 offers. Im a disabled individual, and this machine allows me to adjust for my injuries, when there are days I can't bench due to injury, im able to use the built in pulley system to work the same areas of the chest, also this smith machine with its built in safety allows me to work with heavy weight without the need of a spotter. I couldn't be more satisfied.

GREAT Home Gym

We absolutely love this equipment! It has so many options for exercise you do not have to be repetitious unless you want to be. Sturdy, well made- we are thrilled to have it. The one exercise we wish it had was a leg press option.

SM-4033

The machine itself seems great! We are in the process of building it, however, building it is an obstacle all on its own. Parts are in 5 different boxes and scattered throughout. There are thousands of parts, including the nuts and bolts, which are actually packaged and labeled, but hard parts you have to dig for in separate boxes. Would be awesome if on the instruction sheet, these parts were labeled as to which box they are in.

Great product

I’ve had the Marcy for three weeks now and I absolutely love it. Assembly was pretty easy. The paper manual and help from YouTube assembly video made it easy to put together

Unusable Due to Faulty Threading on End of Main Bar

I hope I will have both a reason and the ability to update this review more favorably once/if my issue is resolved, but currently I can not even use my machine.

I will agree with what many others have said. The product is illogically packaged (packaging should better align with assembly process/steps) and the instructions are very hard to follow. (This from someone who is very mechanically inclined and is a very logical and analytical thinker.)

Unfortunately, I had a major part that was defective. Part # 18 (the inner bar of the main bar), as shown on page 22 (Step 15) of the assembly instructions, has bad threading in one end preventing me from securing Part # 8 (sleeve) with the intended screw (Part # 66). I am confident that the female end of the bar Part # 18 is faulty because I can screw both of the M10x3/4" screws (Part # 66) into one end of the bar, and neither of the screws into the bad end. The screws get less than half a rotation in and become stuck. I wish it were the screw that had bad threading, but it is clearly the bar that has bad threading.

I contacted customer service, and to their credit, and though it took a couple of weeks to get it, Customer Service sent me another bar. Unfortunately, it was a couple of months before I had the opportunity to resume assembly, at which time I discovered that the replacement part had the exact same issue. I can fit the screws into one end of the bar, but not the other. (This is now true of both the original and the replacement bars: both screws will go into one end of both bars, but neither screw will go into the other end of either bar.) Could the end of the bar possibly be reverse threaded? Was there a faulty batch of bars produced? Both screws will go in one end of the bars; neither screw will go in the other end of the bars. I can not complete assembly of the machine without getting this screw in place. And I can not use the machine at all.

Long Cable Twists

I am on my third long cable. It is fine for a while then it starts to twist. I also have one place that has frayed on all three cables. I think you need to re-design the weight trolley to have two, one for each side. Very frustrated and disappointed. I have photos but, don’t see a way to attach them.

I'm going to be so jacked!

Pros: Solid construction. So many features and accesories there is almost nothing I can't work. Fit's perfectly in a reasonable amount of space. Looks amazing. Excellent price.
Opportunities: Insructions were burried at the bottom of box 5 of 5. Why not put them on top of box 1 of 5? There is a good youtube instructional video that made assembly relatively easy (8hrs, socket wrench helps). Put a QR code link to it right on the box. Parts were not numbered except for bolts and nuts. I recommend an option to purchase with plates. Got a pretty good deal on mine at Dick's.

Works well

Took some time to assemble. Bench is to tall for someone 5'9". Overall works well.

Smith Machine - SM-4033

I rated this machine 4 out of 5 stars overall.

Pros:
The customer service has been excellent, with parts being shipped promptly. The assembly was straightforward and easy to follow, especially with the helpful online installation videos. I was able to put it together on my own. The frame, butterfly, pulley system, and bench are all made of high-quality materials and look and function great. The accessories, including the pull-up bar and dip-curls, work well and will definitely get a lot of use. I really appreciate how everything flows seamlessly together on the machine.

Cons:
The only issue I’ve encountered is with the Smith machine bench press bar, which feels a bit loose on the right side. When I bench, I notice a slight dip on that side and some play in the movement. It’s not a deal-breaker, but the design could be improved to eliminate that slight wobble. Use a level to make sure its balanced on both sides. I had to twist the steel insert bar around alittle to get balanced sides.

SM-4033 Great machine for budget home gym

I still give it 5 stars even though both my part #49 (Guide Rod Sleeve) lost beads insides & wasnt sliding smooth, was tough. But Marcy had delay parts 6-9 weeks. So I have to take it apart tờ put in the working parts. I was going to not build the rest and wait but when I saw 6-9 weeks for the parts I went ahead & built it. But I can’t use the smooth machine part which really sucks. Still gave 5 stars since the product would’ve been great if my parts weren’t defected.

The bench is too high for bench press, I’m tall 5’11” but my feet don’t have a good enough force to the floor.

Bench isn’t heavy, ít wobble a bit left & right when benching cause there’s only 4 screws holding it to the thin metal rod backing.

Cant do the cable fly with both pulley because the pulley system dont move super super smoothly for the cable fly. Other exercises like triceps pull down or lats pull down is okay.

The rods to load the weights for the cables is kind of fat in diameter. Difficult to slide in my new rogue bumper plates & same for storage rods ơn both side.

The good thing is, it’s very sturdy. Racks well for free weight bench & squat. Thẻ seated cable row exercise is nice. Pull up bar & dip is nice. Like the screw clip for the accessories. The machine is overall great quality for the price after the promotion. Shipped very quickly! Would recommend to others.

I have looked at other machines brands and NO OTHER machines for the price is as capable as this Sm-4033!

Weight bar Issue. No replacement shipped yet

I ordered my MP SM-4033 directly from 11/14/24 and was very excited. I got my order 12/3/24 and have not been able to use it since putting it together due the the weight bar being two long and the guide sleeves not sitting flush on the weight bar. I've contacted Marcy (who's customer service was great) and was supposed to be shipped a new weight bar and guide sleeves. I never received an email stating that my item has shipped or a tracking number even though customer service said it was shipped via UPS. I'm currently still waiting for the replacement part so that I can use the smith machine that I was so excited about purchasing.

SM-4033 Upgrade from MD-9010

Upgraded to the 4033 after using the 9010 for several years. After just a few weeks of use, I am very satisfied with the upgrade. Primary key points of the upgrade for me are the adjustable cables on either side, the adjustable safety stops on the smith machine, and the smoother glide on both the smith machine and the rear weight glides due to the ball bearings instead of just plastic sleeves on the 9010. The whole machine is sturdy and more functional with the additional holes for various attachments. My only complaint was that the parts were not labeled with their part number which made assembly a bit more difficult. I also noticed the padding on my bench was thin on one side and had indentations in the seat padding. One email to customer service and this was quickly fixed with replacement parts sent to me quickly and at no cost. If I could change anything, I think it would be the bench. I prefer the bench of the 9010 over this bench on the 4033. The 9010 seemed to be more comfortable and stable for me and it also had the leg extension and leg curl where this bench does not. I also feel like the decline of this bench is much more of a decline and I just preferred the angles of the 9010 bench more. Overall I would absolutely upgrade to this machine again but I just wish they had kept the bench the same!

SM-4033

I've had the SM-4033 for a year, using 5 days a week since purchase. I love it. The unit is solid and works like new today after a year of heavy use just as it did on day 1. It can do everything I need with a few acceptations that can be purchased as accessories. I purchased a Bolt Fitness BLAZE LEG EXTENSION/LEG CURL ATTACHMENT for the bench, fits perfectly. I also added grab handles for doing both leg curls and leg extensions to the bench. Added multi grip handle attachment kit and RDX hanging ab straps to hang from the pullup bar. Other than that it's been everything I expected it to be.

Not Functional

I have not been able to use my Smith machine yo its full capacity and am not very happy at all. Something needs to be done or else I need to return this. The cable system (retention) sucks and it only appears a quarter functional if you put a ton of weight on it but then you are unable to lift anything I have now seen this as a common issue after researching on youtube.

The SM-4033 is Fantastic

I highly recommend getting the SM-4033. While this is not a high-end machine it has many features that will meet the needs of the average, to above-average athlete. The price is a good deal, it is well designed, made of good materials, and went together very well. At the end you will have a solid piece of equipment that you will want to work out on. A couple pieces of advice:
1) Take your time lining up the bolts and nuts; they will cross thread if you rush. Also, have someone to help hold things as you assemble.
2) Use a socket wrench, things will go together more quickly.
3) Don't tighten anything until the end, especially the pulleys. More experienced assemblers won't have any problems, but I had to re-feed the pulley cables through more than once because I rushed.
4) Don't tighten the vertical slide poles (you'll know what I mean when you see them). Just tighten the screws enough to keep the poles in place. The sliding mechanisms need a bit of flexibility in the poles. Once you have it right, the slides function perfectly.
5) The longest cable might twist a bit when you first start using it. I had to manually lift the weight holder in the back and work the twist out through to the ends of the cable. The twisting went away after about 3 "untwisting" sessions. I think there is some residual twist set in the cables during manufacturing that comes out when you start using them with significant weight on the ends.

If given a the chance, I would buy this machine again.
